Dry skin brushing for healthier skin
Vanessa Corrigan, a Naturopathic Herbalist and Aromatherapist from holistictherapies.com.au explains a great technique for healthier skin. Dry skin brushing is a simple and effective means of invigorating your body and encouraging youthful, healthy, glowing skin. Start today and you’ll see results in a few short weeks.
According to Vanessa, there are several pathways by which the body eliminates wastes and toxins; these include the bowels, kidneys, liver, lungs, and the skin. The skin is the largest of these eliminative organs and is responsible for one quarter of the body’s detoxification each day.
To encourage healthy skin, a good diet with plenty of raw vegetables and fruit is essential, as is regular brisk exercise, and daily skin brushing which you can do yourself.
Vanessa believes the benefits of dry skin brushing include:
Reduction of cellulite
Enhances the lymphatic system which is responsible for removing waste products and toxins
Removes dead skin layers and enhances cell renewal
Stimulates circulation to nourish and feed the skin
Firms and tones the skin
Improves skin texture producing soft, smooth skin
Stimulates the sweat and sebaceous glands
Improves digestion
Invigorates the peripheral nervous system and helps you to feel warm and alive
How to Dry Skin Brush
Dry skin brushing is best done on a daily basis and can easily be included as part of your morning cleansing routine. The skin should be brushed while it is dry, prior to your daily shower. After brushing, a shower will wash away the dead skin and impurities.
Vanessa suggest you use a long handled natural fibre brush. Begin at the feet and work up the body towards the heart, making sure that you brush each area several times. Brush over the abdomen with a circular motion, from right to left, following the flow of digestion and the path of the large intestine. Gently brush over the breast area and brush up the arms, over the shoulders and down towards the heart. Start with a light pressure and you’ll find that you can use a firmer pressure after a few days as your skin adjusts to the new sensation.
Just think how good you will feel after a dry skin brush and a shower with your favourite Bodytreats Body Wash – a luxurious shower gel with extracts of Chamomile, Aloe Vera and Allantoin.
